JV Girls Basketball falls to 0-1 in a Nail Biter! Your Bronx Prep, Junior Varsity, Girls Basketball Team hosted their season opener against Bronx Computer Science on Friday, October 4th. In a nail biter, our Lady Trailblazers were edged out by a score of 21 to 26. Despite the loss, this was a great show of effort and growth by the Junior Varsity Girls squad.
PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS:
Melanie Ceballos- Who would know that this game was this young lady's first Basketball game ever?! Ceballos entered the game in the point guard position with such poise and confidence, both defensively and on offense, that she was able to corral the team, getting them back into the rhythm of their style of play.
Anaiyah Frederick - As our team struggled, down 6-0, being a new scholar and a new member to our team and community here at BP, had no effect on Anaiyah Frederick as she stepped up to hit 2 back to back jump shots to get the team rolling in the first half. Frederick finished her day with 1 rebound and 4 points.
Justine Ramos - Standing just under 5 foot in stature, this seemingly small player gave her team big time play on defense and on offense with 2 assists to bring the team within striking range in the first half. Ramos finished her day with 2 key assist.
Shellby McGill - After getting off to a rough start on offense with 4 turnovers, McGill had a monster 2nd half, including a 3-ball that put our Lady Blazers ahead 19-18 in what some would classify as a "dog fight"! McGill finished her day with 1 steal, 3 rebounds and 11 points.
Treshiya Eubanks - Exemplifying the true essence of what it takes to be a leader on the court, Treshiya Eubanks gave her team every ounce of effort she had within her. Playing every minute of the game, she was in fact the game changer. Her intentionality and her intensity on the offensive side of the floor posed such a threat that her teammates, Ramos and Frederick were able to connect for critical baskets to get us back into the game in the first half. On defense she gave even more effort which in the second half allowed her teammate, McGill, to get two buckets in transition fastbreaks in addition to her own fastbreak bucket. Eubanks finished her day with 2 steals, 5 rebounds and 4 points. She is also the recipient of this week's game ball, awarded by her coaches.
